WHAT WE DO

The Mission of the Society shall be to preserve and promote the rich and diverse history of Peaks Island, Maine for current and future generations by providing a wide variety of public programs and activities focused on local history.

Peaks Island Historical Society

The Society was established in the spring of 2019 by a group of like-minded people who felt that more could and should be done to preserve the island’s past.  Why, you may ask?  A significant portion of the year-round population is constantly changing – many newcomers want to experience island life but, for a variety of reasons, do not stay long.  The ever-shrinking pool of long-time islanders are concerned that the community’s rich legacy will be lost forever if more is not done to preserve it.  The Society is staffed by community volunteers and has been designated a 501(c )3 organization by the Internal Revenue Service.
